Four Decades of Excellence in Gastroenterology Education
Preparing gastroenterologists for success since 1985.
For more than 40 years, the William M. Steinberg Board Review in Gastroenterology and Best Practices Course has been a trusted resource for physicians seeking comprehensive, authoritative education in gastroenterology and hepatology.
Founded in 1985 by Dr. William M. Steinberg, the course was established with a straightforward mission: to provide gastroenterologists with the knowledge, clinical insights, and confidence necessary to excel in board certification examinations and everyday clinical practice.
At a time when dedicated gastroenterology board review programs were virtually nonexistent, Dr. Steinberg recognized the need for a comprehensive, specialty-focused educational experience. His vision became one of the longest-running gastroenterology board review programs in the United States.
Today, more than 13,000 gastroenterologists have participated in the program, establishing a legacy of educational excellence that spans generations of physicians.
A Tradition of Academic Excellence
The strength of the Steinberg Board Review has always been its faculty and the quality of its educational content. Our program brings together distinguished physicians, educators, and subject matter experts to deliver comprehensive instruction across the full spectrum of gastroenterology and hepatology.
Through carefully developed lectures, clinical discussions, and examination-style questions, our faculty translate complex medical concepts into practical, accessible learning experiences. Our curriculum is designed to reinforce foundational knowledge while addressing evolving clinical practices, emerging research, and advances in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal and liver diseases. Whether preparing for an initial certification examination, maintaining certification, or expanding clinical expertise, participants benefit from an educational program built upon decades of experience.
Comprehensive Education for Today’s GI Professionals
While board preparation remains central to our mission, the Steinberg Board Review serves a broad community of healthcare professionals, including:
- Gastroenterology fellows preparing for their initial board certification.
- Practicing gastroenterologists preparing for recertification or participating in the ABIM Longitudinal Knowledge Assessment (LKA).
- Physicians seeking to remain current with advances in gastroenterology and hepatology.
- Nurse practitioners and physician assistants working in gastroenterology.
- Other healthcare professionals seeking comprehensive, specialty-focused education.
Our educational offerings include in-depth video and audio lectures, comprehensive course syllabi, archived educational presentations, and extensive practice examinations featuring more than 1,000 faculty-developed questions.
These resources provide participants with opportunities to assess their knowledge, identify areas for improvement, and reinforce essential clinical concepts.
Evolving With the Practice of Medicine
Medical education has changed dramatically since 1985, and so have we.
What began as a traditional, in-person board review course has evolved into a comprehensive educational experience combining the benefits of live instruction with the flexibility of digital learning.
Today, participants can access educational resources online, review lectures at their own pace, revisit challenging subjects, and prepare for examinations according to their individual schedules.
Our annual live course continues the tradition of bringing together accomplished faculty and dedicated healthcare professionals for an intensive educational experience.
By embracing modern technology while preserving the academic standards upon which the program was founded, we continue to make high-quality gastroenterology education accessible to professionals across the country and beyond.
More Than Board Preparation
Although board certification and maintenance of certification are important milestones, we believe the value of continuing medical education extends well beyond an examination.
The practice of gastroenterology is constantly evolving. New diagnostic techniques, treatment strategies, clinical guidelines, and scientific discoveries continually reshape patient care.
Our goal is not simply to help physicians answer examination questions correctly. It is to strengthen clinical knowledge, encourage lifelong learning, and support informed medical decision-making.
We believe that better education contributes to better clinical practice — and ultimately, better patient care.
Continuing Medical Education
The Steinberg Board Review is committed to supporting the continuing educational needs of practicing healthcare professionals.
Through our educational collaboration with The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, eligible course activities offer opportunities to earn Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits and American Board of Internal Medicine Maintenance of Certification (MOC) points, as applicable.
This commitment reflects our belief that professional development should be an ongoing part of every physician’s career.
Our Legacy. Your Future.
